The Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Korrigans

Good Evening Ladies & Gentlemen,

We have returned from another lovely trip to France. It was wonderful seeing all of Margaux's family as usual. We had a whole week of rummaging and picking so we hope you like some of the next instalments on the shop. We are very pleased and excited to tell you that The Splendid Suitcase are opening a Mens & Children's Section!!! We have a selection of three & two piece suits, suit jackets & tweed jackets. We also have some exquisite items coming for you lovely ladies. Including TWO 'Courreges' coats!!!

Without further ado I present to you our new outfit blog! The photos were taken by the beautiful coast of the Côtes D'armor region in Brittany.

We found a magical book which said that Korrigans used to dance around on this beach and hide within the crevasses of the rock. How hilarious!
Margaux recently had the zipper on this dress fixed by the lovely people at Buddy's in Brighton. It is my favourite dress she owns, well maybe apart from the one I bought her for Christmas...

It is a Handmade 1950s Black Full Skirt Dress. It has three quarter length sleeves, a fitted waist and a half pleated full circle skirt.
It started to rain, so we went for a little drive down the coast.
Luckily we had a Brolly in the car, it was raining cats & dogs!
Margaux went for the Mary Poppins look.
The scenery around Perros-Guirrec is stunning. It is never hard to find a place to take a photo or two!

We thought this witchlike photo fitted quite well with the story of the Korrigans.

Our next post will feature some of our recent finds which we are very excited to share with you. For all you Rockabilly Boys and Girls or 50s enthusiasts, we have some amazing pieces including real 1950s French sailor and marine coats, shirts and middy blouses,  and for all Mods and 60s lovers we have some psychedelic, trapeze and mini dresses and much much more coming to The Splendid Suitcase!!!

We will leave you with a little animation of Margaux getting splashed.

Have a Splendiferous weekend,

Much Love,

Alec

It's a Frrrreeeezing Friday.

Good day to you,

Yesterday started off in a quite a bizarre fashion for us, we were woken up by a sound that I could only describe as 'heavy window scratching', and as the window is situated right next to our bed, it was quite disturbing to be honest with you, especially as we live in a top floor flat! Soon after remembering there was scaffolding outside, we realised that our landlord must have got someone in to finally repaint our window frames and the laughter began...

Then one moment we had hail stones rattling our skylight and the next we had beautiful sunshine, so we were very bemused! Anyway, after a day of curious and comical happenings we thought it would be a good idea to go for a drive. The Sun was still shining and what could be better than finding a remote spot to watch it go down? Margaux once said "I don't know what the fuss is all about with sunsets, it's the sunrise you gotta look out for!" and I do agree, but the sky turned a beautiful apricot colour and we couldn't help but get a few snapshots.

Here is Margaux looking slightly like Charlie Chaplin minus the Moustache, miming being cold?
We found these lovely 1940s high waisted woollen slacks with a ruby red pinstripe when we last visited France and as they have a satin lining, they weren't too itchy for her to keep hold of. Good Excuse!
The coat she is wearing was handed down by her lovely Grandmother. We shall be taking a trip to France very soon so if we find a picture of her wearing it, we will make sure we post it on here.

Poor little darling was frozen to death, even though she didn't show it 'too much'.
I had a bash at trying to make the waves get angrier by singing to them and when we realised it wasn't working, we ran to the nearest Café where Margaux got a super frothy latte with a humongous piece of walnut and coffee cake and I got a cup o' tea and a slice of carrot cake!

We made this little video of our trip back, hope you like it!

We will be adding some very special items this week, so make sure to keep checking the shop. Another Beautiful Victorian Cape is on its way! We are also planning a big blog for you lovely people while we are away, showcasing some of the treasures we find so be sure to keep your peepers peeled for that aswell...

The Peppermint Beat Band have a show tonight at The Blues Kitchen in Camden which I am very excited about so I am going to have to head off now. We have had problems with the battery in the band wagon, so I better go and make sure the thing starts.

Wish me luck and have a wonderful weekend!

Much Love,

Alec

A Vintage Wonderland

As promised, here are a few pictures from our last trip to France! My parents have been collecting vintage items since I can remember and I thought it would be nice to share some photographs of their house for our first 'home interior' post, hope you like them :)

I love houses that have the right balance of modern and vintage, it always seems hard not to overdo things and I guess that furnishing and decorating a house can take years but it's such an exciting process.  I cannot wait until we have our own house, our flat is amazing but I find renting it a little frustrating, I guess the fact that your place isn't really yours is always at the back of your mind, for now we'll just have to keep on gathering as many ideas as possible! I've been coming across the most inspirational interior photographs both on the internet and magazines, I'll have to share them with you very soon along with more pictures from our last trip!

Sweet dreams,

A very sleepy Margaux

Nuages

Bonsoir! This friday we've put together a classy 1940s inspired look, we mentioned in our previous posts that the English weather has been wonderful during the past few weeks, well, the indian summer is definitely over now and we're starting to feel the cold! As much as I adore summer it's actually quite nice to be able to wear some layers, and I mean who doesn't love curling up in a big duvet with a cup of hot chocolate and a great movie!

I'm wearing:

✩ 1930s black velvet hat with net

✩ 1930s/40s Wool mix striped tie neck blouse (available to purchase HERE)

✩ 1940s prussian blue Jacket w/ fur collar (soon available to purchase HERE)

✩ 1940s black crepe skirt

✩ Cream celluloid pocketbook (will soon be available HERE)

✩ Leather marine blue heels from ROCKIT, London.

Have a wonderful friday night!

The Starlings Of Brighton Pier

For today's 'Dress Of The Week', we thought we would go and pay the starlings a little visit along the pier. It is only a stone's throw away, so we often walk down there. It is mesmerising to watch them dance and swoop, so trying to take a decent photograph of the dress and not the birds became quite an obstacle.

The dress we have chosen is a wonderful powder blue French 1940s dress with cap sleeves, fitted waist and full circle skirt. Hope you like it!!!

Have a lovely evening,

Alec & Margaux

That squirrel is off its nut...

Good Morning,

We have compiled another outfit for 'Thank Frock It's Friday' from our dearly beloved collection for you. We took the pictures in a wonderful little place in Brighton called Queens Park and met a few friends en route...

We were unsure of the red object that he had stashed in the trunk of the tree.

So here it is, from top down:

★ Jacket : Very pretty navy blue jacket with an impeccable fur neckline from the early 1940s.

★ Blouse : Vintage 60s white cotton pearl buttoned down shirt with beautiful and intricate cut work floral pattern.

★ Skirt : 1950s Accordion pleated skirt.

★ Handbag : 1970s White Handbag.

★ Tights : Stay ups from H&M

★ Shoes : Low Heels from Rokit a few years back.

The Jacket, Blouse and Handbag will be available to purchase from our Etsy shop as of next week!!!

Alec's band are playing at a festival this weekend so we will no doubt be knee deep in mud and picking out ridiculous costumes all weekend!  Any item that is purchased from The Splendid Suitcase as of 3 o'clock (UK time) Friday 23rd up until Sunday 25th will be shipped on the following Monday!

Have a wonderful weekend mes amis!!!
