"Meet me under the whale in the Natural History Museum."

We are having a grand time in France and as you can see by all the new listings, we have found some great pieces for you. Loads of Psychedelic 60s Dresses which we hope you like?

We found this beautiful neck piece, which Margaux experimented with, from the late 1800s the other day, so we thought we would set up some photographs for you! They remind me of an old dusty science lab or mysterious Victorian Natural History Museum. (Obviously I haven't been to one but you can imagine.)  Margaux's cat certainly was inquisitive what with all the birds, but Im sure she couldn't get her paws around that fish even if it was alive. I did tell her which led to her getting upset and walking off in a huff.

We now have 970 admirers on our Etsy shop. Which we would like to THANK YOU for. Our entrance into the Vintage Clothing and Blogging world was very warmly welcomed and we are very grateful for all your lovely comments!!! When we reach 1000, we shall be having a 20% sale, so please keep the love coming! That 20% will be off EVERYTHING, including the Victorian Cape....

Donovan gave us inspiration for the title so here is an earlier version of 'Museum' for you to listen to.

I hope everyone had a lovely Easter, Joyeuses Pâques!

Good Day Sunshine!!! Dah-D-Dah...

Well hello again Ladies & Gentlemen!

How are we all? We had some beautiful weather on the South East Coast of England last week, it did get colder by the weekend but it had to happen at some point didn't it, we were in Blighty after all and it was March...

Now we have travelled the English Channel and arrived at a warm and wonderful Brittany where April has certainly arrived in style!

We have a very special post for this week, The Splendid Suitcase has teamed up with artistic director, fashion stylist and not to mention a very dear friend, Hollie Peck. But first of all, we have an outfit post.

Margaux is wearing:

✩ 1930s / 40s Taupe Persian Lamb Fur Coat / Peter Pan Collar / French / With Exquisite Buttons
✩ Cardigan from H&M
✩ 1960s Navy Blue Eyelet Dress
✩ 1960s Blue Heels
✩ And her trusty faux fur stole

We are very excited to introduce Hollie's work. Hollie is an innovative stylist who works closely with her brother, together they create magnificent pieces like these below.

Here is a link to more of her work -

Here is also a link to her brother, Joel Peck's Photography Blog

The shoot was taken on Brighton beach while the tide was far out. All props were styled by the lovely Stef Callaghan

We would like to say a BIG Thank You to all of these wonderful people for including The Splendid Suitcase in their project.

This wedding dress will be up on the shop in the next couple of weeks, so keep your eyes peeled!
This evening dress is available to purchase from our Etsy shop here.
Take a look at this Victorian Mourning Cape...

Hollie has recently borrowed some more items for another shoot, so we shall post the new photos up when they are ready! For a sneak peak of behind the scenes, Go Here!

Up On Devil's Dyke

Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen! First of all, we are very sorry we haven't posted in such a long time, we have been super busy with the Etsy shop and Alec has a lot of uni work on at the minute.

Today we have an outfit post for you! A little while ago, me and Alec decided to drive up to Devil's Dyke in West Sussex. It is such a beautiful place, we had a good walk around and it was SO cold, bear in mind I was wearing a pair of white summer shoes... They are amazing but I will definitely wait for warmer days to slip my feet back in them! Later on we had a lovely roast dinner and a couple of drinks in the only pub around, which happened to be serving Alec's favourite Ale : Bengal Lancer. (It is pretty tricky to come across, he was IN HEAVEN!) Then we were lucky enough to witness a stunning sunset and drove back home exhausted and satisfied!

I'm wearing:

 *Faux-Fur Brown Coat*
*1920s Evening Jacket*
*1950s tea dress (available to purchase here)*
*1970s Shoes*

Alec and his Bengal Lancer!

We have an exciting post ready for you this week, keep your eyes peeled!!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

I've Got You Under My Skin

Bonsoir! Valentine's Day is on its way and I thought it would be a great opportunity to share some of my favourite love cards with you, the following are from the 1930s and come from a french lady's quirky and very beautifully presented postcard book. I absolutely adore them! It is a shame that the "love letter tradition" is almost extinct, I can't imagine how she must have felt when looking back on these amazing pieces of memory!

This is one of the sweetest cards I have ever seen, written by a young boy:

"Mademoiselle Madeline I am sending you this card which I hope you will like and that you will see that I'm thinking of you, Roland told me to write this card because he wants us to start seeing each-other, with love,
Victor Briard.
VBMB for life"

I wanted to finish this post with a couple of lovely edwardian postcards:

Dear gentlemen, forget the flowers and start creating some beautiful cards for your ladies!

I Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Do you have any special plans for Valentine's Day?

Love,

Margaux

The Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Korrigans

Good Evening Ladies & Gentlemen,

We have returned from another lovely trip to France. It was wonderful seeing all of Margaux's family as usual. We had a whole week of rummaging and picking so we hope you like some of the next instalments on the shop. We are very pleased and excited to tell you that The Splendid Suitcase are opening a Mens & Children's Section!!! We have a selection of three & two piece suits, suit jackets & tweed jackets. We also have some exquisite items coming for you lovely ladies. Including TWO 'Courreges' coats!!!

Without further ado I present to you our new outfit blog! The photos were taken by the beautiful coast of the Côtes D'armor region in Brittany.

We found a magical book which said that Korrigans used to dance around on this beach and hide within the crevasses of the rock. How hilarious!
Margaux recently had the zipper on this dress fixed by the lovely people at Buddy's in Brighton. It is my favourite dress she owns, well maybe apart from the one I bought her for Christmas...

It is a Handmade 1950s Black Full Skirt Dress. It has three quarter length sleeves, a fitted waist and a half pleated full circle skirt.
It started to rain, so we went for a little drive down the coast.
Luckily we had a Brolly in the car, it was raining cats & dogs!
Margaux went for the Mary Poppins look.
The scenery around Perros-Guirrec is stunning. It is never hard to find a place to take a photo or two!

We thought this witchlike photo fitted quite well with the story of the Korrigans.

Our next post will feature some of our recent finds which we are very excited to share with you. For all you Rockabilly Boys and Girls or 50s enthusiasts, we have some amazing pieces including real 1950s French sailor and marine coats, shirts and middy blouses,  and for all Mods and 60s lovers we have some psychedelic, trapeze and mini dresses and much much more coming to The Splendid Suitcase!!!

We will leave you with a little animation of Margaux getting splashed.

Have a Splendiferous weekend,

Much Love,

Alec
